Rwanda correctional service (RCS)in partnership with international committee for Red cross(ICRC), hosted the workshop of five days at PARK INN Hotel located in kiyovu, kigali city today 28 January2020 which will discuss about prisons infrastructures in Africa.
This workshop host about 9 countries, those are Rwanda which host the workshop ,Kenya ,Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Ethiopia ,Libya, South Sudan and Gambia, the participants representing their countries prisons in order to discuss about the development of prisons and the way the infrastructures can be protected in Africa prisons.
This none governmental organization is a committee set by watching vulnerable peoples rights, like prisoners ,refugees and those who are in danger situations in order to protect their human rights, where Francois Moreillon a representative of this group from ICRC talk more about this workshop intention.
He said:” in 2018 we visited 1300 prisons in 83 countries around the world include 32 prisons From African continent ,where we found some problem of old infrastructures and to build staff capacity”
RCS General commissioner CGP George Rwigamba in launching this workshop, said that infrastructure is one thing which took much in budget.
He said:” infrastructure is one thing which took much on our annual budget, about 10% of our budget is using in different building in order to have safe place and good life for prisoners and to protect their rights.”
Permanent secretary in ministry of justice Betty Mukeshimana said that Rwandan government put much effort in respecting human right.
She said:” reason why we put much effort in building prison infrastructure, that is the way of strengthening the protection of human rights because we know the values of human beings and then we remember that those who are in prison is a human being.”
The prediction of this workshop are much, and the end of that they will visit Nyarugenge prison to see the infrastructure of that prison
