Today at RCS headquarters, The Commissioner General CGP Juvenal MARIZAMUNDA received partners from stirling Foundation, Latter Day Saint Charities and DiDe foundation to discuss on the implementation of the first ever project of halfway social reintegration program that is aimed at preparing inmates in their progressive rehabilitation and reintegration into the community.

The halfway social reintegration project is in line with RCS mandate which is to re-educate and rehabilitate inmates for their successful reintegration into the society as productive and law bidding citizens.’

Furthermore, the pilot project is expected to accommodate at least 2000 male inmates and 500 female inmates in Rwamagana District in Eastern province. This is an innovative feature in RCS transformational journey that hope to build on and replicate it in other parts of the country.

Since 2019, RCS through the ministry of justice has been working closely with partners (Stirling Foundation and DiDe) on this project. Our partnership is premised on a shared goal which puts rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates at the center of our action.

More to that, RCS has focused on securing land and the construction permit for the first phase of the project. The donars have already funded the development of the architectural design and technical studies.

In conclusion therefore, a steering committee bearing MINIJUST, RCS, Stirling foundation and DiDe foundation will continue to work closely on various aspects for the implementation of this project.
