On Saturday March 14, 2020 Rwanda  correctional service RCS, on one of social media platform, announced that the visit of inmates is postponed within 21 days.

The announcement stated “in order to follow instructions from Rwanda Health officials towards the prevention of  COVID-19, RCS wishes to inform the general public that the visit in all prison is postponed within 21 days.”

This was due to the pandemic of COVID-19 shocking around the World, where the Ministry of Health has made strong guidelines for preventing this pandemic. Both private and public schools, Universities, and social gatherings in the country were closed for two weeks.

The postponement will last 21 days, and then the public will be informed if they can visit their friends and relatives in further notice and we are sorry for any inconvenience from these changes.

This is a guideline to protect Rwandan community, as a response to the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19. The government has took measures to hygienic (hand sanitizer) in gathering places and not shaking hands while greetings.

If one inmate is tested COVID-19 positive, he/she can easily spread the pandemic to the big number of inmates because they are crowded in a prison.

In Rwanda there are  about 74,000 inmates in 13 prisons.
