The Commissioner General of RCS said that the project began in 2012 when RCS, working in partnership with the ICRC, started building a special factory for producing saucepans.
CGP Paul Rwarakabije revealed that the creation of this project of saucepans manufacturing was motivated by the big need for these saucepans within the prison services.
He thanked the ICRC for its good collaboration which is the basis of the concrete projects realized together.
Concerning the quality of saucepans made by inmates, CGP Paul Rwarakabije said that they are good quality because there is no difference between these saucepans and those which are made somewhere else.
He asked the team of the technicians who were trained to train the others so that the action will be continuous.
Mr Jaky L. Villettaz, the Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Rwanda said that he was very impressed by the work which was made by inmates.
He so greeted the perfect partnership, which exists for a long time between RCS and the ICRC and he wished that it continues with the aim of improving the conditions of detention.
Except for this project of saucepans manufacturing, other projects were realized in collaboration with the ICRC, such as the project of biogas, the construction of kitchens and so many others.
