From Monday 24 February 2025, CG Evariste Murenzi is on a reciprocal benchmarking visit to Seychelles Prison service as to make conclusions on the Initiated Memorandum of Understanding between Seychelles Prison Service and Rwanda Correctional Service. The delegation will also assess on the possibility of having exchange programs on training of Corrections and prisons officers as requested during the Seychelles Commissioner of Prison visit to Rwanda in September 2024. It is also expected that a possibility to have an exchange and updates on the sophisticated Prison/Correctional facilities’ programs and norms will be agreed upon as well as the support requested by Seychelles for the security of their Prisons facilities through Rwanda Correctional Service.

On his 1st day of visit to Seychelles, the Commissioner General of Rwanda Service was welcomed by the Seychelles Commissioner of Prison, Mrs. Janet Gorges and their discussions looked extensively in the areas of mutual interest for both institutions including collaboration in the security operations of their prison facilities, rehabilitation and reintegration programs, training and capacity building among others.

CG Evariste Murenzi also made a courtesy call to the Hon.Minister of Internal affairs Hon. Erol Fonseka, who as well empathized on the need to enhance the initiated mutual cooperation in the field of Corrections/Prisons Service as one of the very key institutions in law enforcement in the Seychelles in general.

It is worth noting and in order to share best practice in the management and operationalization of the prisons/correctional facilities, a reciprocate visit was made at the Detention Remand Facility (DRF) Bois de Rose and the Primarily Perseverance Detention Facility (PPDRF). It is also expected that, the similar tour will be made at the Montagne Posee Prison and the High Security Facility (Bonn Espoir)among others, to share experience in corrections for best practices.

Notably, From 28th June to 1st July 2023, H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda visited Seychelles and six (6) MoUs were signed. Furthermore, On 11th August 2024, the President of the Republic of Seychelles attended the inauguration of the President of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E. Paul KAGAME.

Based on the afore highlighted cooperation, the reciprocal benchmarking visit to the Seychelles and Specifically to Seychelles Prison Service marks the commitment to move ahead in deepening both countries’ burgeoning relationship and maximize the level of engagement.
