CG Hamunyela, along with delegation, were accompanied by the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS), CG Evariste Murenzi.

The Director of the Nyarugenge Correctional Facility SP Eric Mwungura, provided them with an overview of the facility’s operations. He explained to the guests the measures in place to ensure the security of this Correctional facility, including a room dedicated to monitoring security both inside and outside the facility using ‘the CCTV cameras.’ After visiting this room, the visitors suggested that this technology should also be adopted in Namibia, as it provides timely security information.

Among the activities they visited at the Nyarugenge Correctional Facility was the E-Court; an online courtroom, and a plant that processes waste from the facility to generate biogas used for cooking for the inmates. They also visited various vocational training schools and craftsmanship.

After touring the biogas plant, CG Hamunyela expressed his appreciation for conserving the environment while also reducing costs associated with obtaining cooking energy. He also praised the work being done by the inmates, such as vegetable farming that provides daily food for them and dairy farming that provide milk for those with special dietary needs.

Following the visit to the Nyarugenge Correctional Facility, the delegation proceeded to the Museum for Campaign against Genocide where they were briefed on the history of the struggle to end the Genocide and the bravery of Rwandans who risked their lives to free the country.

CG Hamunyela and his delegation were briefed on the history of the battle to stop the Genocide against the Tutsi.
