On 27th May, 2020 Rwanda Correctional Service has enrolled new Prison Guards, the ceremony of pass out was presided over by Minister of Justice and Attorney General Johnston Busingye at RCS Training School Rwamagana.
In his remarks, ACP Edward WAKUBIRWA, Commandant of RCS Training School revealed that those new Prison Guards were equipped with various professional skills that will enable them to accomplish their everyday duties.
In brief, those professional skills include:
Drills and Physical training; Map reading and Tactical skills; Handling and Management of inmates with the special needs; Gender and Corrections; Weapon training; Criminal Justice and Human Rights; Basic Psychology and Behavior Modification; Procedures and Structures; Practices and Communication; Health Issues and Health care in Correctional facilities; Security Management and Security in Prison; Introduction to Criminology, Penology and Corrections; Basic English and Communication skills; Peace Support Operations; and Lectures of Opportunity.
One of new Prison Guards, WDR UWIZEYIMANA Dorcas, stated that she will work accordingly in her duties owing to the skills she was equipped with.
“I am very happy, for today we closed basic training course. We have acquired various professional skills and drills that will enable us to do our duties of inmates’ correction in a professional manner. I encourage women to take part in this profession, for they are in need. We are going to work together with our co-workers in correctional activities.” She commented
Indeed, WDR AGABA Innocent, a new Prison Guard, also emphasized the role of skills he has got in future duties and assured to accomplish them professionally.
CIP Tonny Valens MUTUYIMANA, Ag Chief Instructor at RCS Training School confirmed that the new Prison Guards were equipped with competent skills that will empower them in correctional service activities.
He said “we’ve done what’s possible to feed their brain with the sufficient skills that will be used in this profession. Based on their performance, these New prison Guards will skillfully and wisely fulfill any given duties whenever.
This is Intake 04, and they are 649 New prison Guards in which 120 are women.
