RCS enrolls new prison guards

Today May 27^th, 2020 Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnson Busingye, has officially concluded the pass out ceremony and welcomed 649 new prison guards, Intake 04, who completed their 9 months basic training course in correctional service at RCS Training School Rwamagana. 

The ceremony was fully restricted to the guidelines of COVID-19 preventive measures. Therefore, all attendees were wearing masks and hand sanitizers were available. 

To this point, few RCS Officials and some prison guards from RCS Training School and Rwamagana Prison, only attended the event.

The Commandant of RCS Training School, ACP Edward WAKUBIRWA, applauded all guests who attended the ceremony.

 “I would like to appreciate Minister of Justice, RCS Officials and all other guests for your presence in today’s ceremony of enrolling new prison guards in Rwanda Correctional Service. These new prison guards had acquired professional skills in weapon handling and drills concerning correctional profession, and I assure you that they will significantly contribute a lot in correctional service.” ACP Edward said.

Minister of Justice, Johnson Busingye showed appreciation to RCS Officials for organizing the event in respect of COVID-19 preventive measures, and promised strong cooperation.

He stated “thank you for organizing this event professionally by obeying COVID-19 preventive measures. I also wish new prison guards the best of luck in all your future endeavors; being courageous, disciplined, committed and fighting against corruption should be your values in this profession.”

Minister of Justice has also mentioned that RCS has achieved a lot, for it is nowadays deploying its Correctional Officers in various UN Missions.

Hon. Johnston has assured RCS to obtain professional training in Rwanda and abroad, and to have modern equipment that will help in correctional activities in respect of inmates’ human rights.

 Among 649 new prison guards, there are 120 women and 529 men.
