MOU AND AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF ZIMBABWE AND RWANDA

At the ministry of justice, an agreement in mutual legal assistance and a memorandum of understanding in the field of prisons and correctional services were signed between the republic of ZIMBABWE and the republic of RWANDA as part of the first joint permanent commission for cooperation (1st JPCC) held between two countries.

 The signed MoU in the field of prisons and correctional services has the main objective of renewing and strengthening authority bond between the two countries for mutual benefit more especially on cooperation, legal assistance and in the field of prisons and correctional services.

Furthermore, this MoU is aimed to establish framework for cooperation between parties on how best to improve the standards of services and strengthen the universally recognized best practices on prison and correctional services and ancillary matters.

The areas of cooperation will be in technical cooperation on information management, strengthening capacities of both parties through human resource development, exchange of information on issues related to prisons and correctional services, exchange of visits on sports and cultural sharing, joint projects to realize common objectives and improved correctional practices including research and study projects, rehabilitation of offenders and any other form of cooperation mutually agreed upon by the parties. The parties will further initiate the implementation plans in these areas of cooperation.

In conclusion therefore the mutual agreement and MoU’s signed are aimed to rise the bilateral relations to the new level for better lives of both citizens through engaging more effectively on cooperation projects in the field of agriculture, mining, infrastructure development, defence and security, economy and finance, trade and investment as well as social and humanitarian affairs.
