On 24 September 2024, Commissioner of Prison services in Seychelles, Janet Georges, visited the RCS Headquarters, met with RCS top leaders to discuss various programs including the development of institution and its overall mission, through that discussions, she decided to visit training School where staff are trained before start their professional career, that is why today, September 25, 2024, he visited RCS school and see how different courses are done, where she get more information’s about the courses offered there.
During her visit at RCS Training School Rwamagana, the chief Instructor SP Tonny Mutuyimana, is the one who explained more to her about the course provided to the RCS staff.
He said, “In general, RCS Training school, offers different courses according to the categories, there are basic courses delivered to those who are preparing to become new professional staff, we have training of junior officers (Cadet course), we have training of staff called refresher course just for capacity building and another course given staff ready to go in peace keeping mission of United Nations, these different courses we have here, we have instructors with the skills and ability to train the staff and the skills and knowledge they got from here help them in daily correction activities.
After being clarified about the different trainings being delivered at RCS Training school, Janet Georges, Seychelle Prisons Commissioner praised the way the RCS has built and she requested the partnership in sharing skill and knowledge.
“I’m very happy, I had the opportunity to visit this training, it’s good and it shows that you have a greater vision. It’s good, I’m saying this because I saw it with my own eyes, not what I was told, this shows me that you have good staff who are trained, I wish that the countries to strength unite and work together to prepare for tomorrow’s young generation, and I hope that if we come together like Africa, we will win.” She said
In her conclusion she request the bilateral cooperation in order to improve the level of their prisons because they found that there is a lot to learn from Rwanda both in terms of infrastructure and in trainings provided RCS staff in trainings.
