An inmate who had escaped from the International Nyanza Prison has been arrested after six months of search thanks to the strong partnership between people of Gicumbi District and Rwanda Correctional Services.
According to Rwanda Correctional Services Spokesperson SIP Hillary Sengabo, Batambarije Theogene was arrested on April 3rd 2018 in Gicumbi District in Miyove centre after area residents tipped RCS officials who later arrested him.
“Our investigation department has been busy searching focusing mainly in his residential areas and in partnership with residents, they tipped us his whereabouts and he was arrested after six months he escaped Nyanza prison,” said Sengabo
Batambarije hails from Burera District in Gatebe Sector, Rwambogo Cell and was sentenced to 16 years over rape.
He escaped the prison along with Cassien Ntamuhanga and Sibomana Kirenge who were also in Nyanza prison serving various sentences.
He is temporally being held at Miyove Prison in Gicumbi District.
