The RCS Commissioner General Evariste Murenzi, signs an MoU to host the 27th International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), to be held in Rwanda next year

This is an event that took place alongside the ICPA conferences on technology in corrections and innovation in prison infrastructure that is taking place in Istanbul, Turkey from 22-26 April 2024, as part of continued visibility and readiness for Rwanda to host the above mentioned Annual General Meeting and Conference in Rwanda in 2025,  the Commissioner General and his delegation are attending  the ICPA conferences on technology in corrections and innovation in prison infrastructure particularly focusing on Digital solutions for rehabilitation, Impact of artificial Intelligence, integrating technology across prison/correction systems, innovative design solutions for humane correctional facilities and creating normalized living environments in correctional facilities among others.

It  is also worth noting that, the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) is a none-profit association for prison professionals founded in 1998 with a mission to promote and share ethical and effective correctional practices to enhance public safety and healthier communities worldwide. It is a non-governmental organization in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). Normally, ICPA rotates its annual general meeting and conference in different countries that attract more than 900 participants from across the world aimed at recognizing outstanding progress and excellence with respect to its mission, particularly in prisons/corrections achievements which advance humanitarian, environmental and professional corrections and prisons approaches.

The signed Memorandum of Understanding between RCS Commissioner General- Evariste Murenzi and ICPA President Peter Severin is an indication and trust that the global corrections association has in Rwanda to host the mentioned conference from 26 – 31 October 2025. By hosting this very important event, Rwanda will be the second African country (after Namibia in 2014) to host the ICPA AGM and conference.

The MoU signed in ongoing conferences on technology in corrections and innovation in prison infrastructure held in Istanbul, Turkey from 22-26 April 2024, with ICPA President Peter Severin.
The ongoing conferences on technology in corrections and innovation in prison infrastructure held in Istanbul, Turkey is being attended by more than 600 prisons and correctional services practitioners and experts across the world.
