In her address to the participants, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion told them that the Government of Rwanda will continue to work through the Group of Friends of Corrections and through its Permanent Mission to the United Nations to support the role of corrections and women corrections officers in peacekeeping missions.

The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion reminded that Rwanda considers the rule of law as an important part of restoring peace and security in post conflict situations as called for in UN Security Council Resolutions 1325, 1829 and most recently Resolution 2122 which all affirm the women’s equal participation and full involvement and the need to take further action to protect women and girls in conflict situations. She added that according to the experience of Rwanda, the inclusion and participation of women in all processes of peace building are valuable and impactful.

The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion greeted the contribution of the Rwandan female correctional officers to UN peace support and peacekeeping missions. She added that these officers actively contribute to combating and raising awareness on violence against women in the communities they serve.

Creation of a pre-deployment training facility for women correction officers in Rwanda, special recruitment campaign for women, better understanding on gender equality and women’s empowerment, are among others, the recommendations of this training workshop.
