RCS paid tribute to the former employees of Prisons killed in the Genocide

During the ceremony which took place at Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) Headquarters on 12th April 2013, the RCS staff met to pay tribute to nine former employees who were killed in the Genocide. In his remarks, the Commissioner General of RCS, CGP Paul Rwarakabije urged the Genocide survivors to remain strong and courageous.
CGP Paul Rwarakabije said that the genocide was prepared for a long time by the bad leadership which opted for the segregation among the Rwandans. He called on every person present in this ceremony to continue to put efforts in fighting the genocide ideology and those who are bent on denying or trivializing genocide.
The Commissioner General of RCS thanked the Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) for having stopped the genocide and for establishing the process of the unity and reconciliation among the Rwandans.
The President of National Unity and Reconciliation Commission, Bishop John Rucyahana, told the mourners that genocide resulted from a hatred campaign spanning decades.
Various speakers requested the RCS to put more efforts in sensitizing inmates to reveal whereabouts of victims whose remains are yet to be recovered.
CGP Paul Rwarakabije said that such mobilization has already started in different prisons. He also added that all prisons are requested to rehabilitate at least two neighboring genocide survivors’ houses and to give them other possible support.
The ceremony was preceded by the walk made by the RCS staff, which went from RCS Headquarters to Kigali Genocide Memorial, where this staff paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. The RCS also contributed Rwf 500,000 for the preservation of this Genocide Memorial.
