On 2nd March 2018, Members of RCS High Council held a meeting to discuss how security in prisons can be enhanced.
The meeting, which was held at RCS headquarters in Kigali brought together the members of RCS High Council which include the Minister for Justice Johnston Busingye, RCS Commissioner General, and other officials from the Ministry of Local Government, Rwanda National Police, Rwanda’s bar association Representative as well as Representative of National Commission for Human Rights.
The meeting discussed security in prisons and took measures to enhance security in the prisons.
This is the first meeting of RCS High Council holds since RCS was transferred to the Ministry of Justice from the former Ministry of Internal Security which no longer exists.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister Busingye who is the President of the RCS High Council and discussed among others the need to increase the number of staff and more training to prison guards.
The Council also discussed how its members can advocate for RCS so that the budgets allocated to it can be increased as the current one is not enough.
