RCS dismisses 56 prison guards

Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS) has dismissed a total of fifty six prison guards over desertion and luck of discipline throughout their work.

The dismissal comes after the cabinet meeting last week approved the Presidential Order dismissing junior officers of Rwanda Correctional Services.

The dismissed include 54 Non- Commissioned Officers and two officers, according to SSP Hillary Sengabo, RCS spokesperson.

“All were dismissed because they either deserted their job or showed indiscipline throughout their work, they were dismissed from RCS and recruitment will be done as it is done in general, though there is a gap it is not like having them when they are not doing their job,” he said

Sengabo advised the serving prison guard to exhibit the high level of discipline adding that similar sanctions will be applied to those who will fail to help the institution achieve its mission and vision and ensure that those who are brought in prisons are offered good correctional services to criminals.

“Respect their responsibility and upholding discipline as the opposite this comes with negative impact including dismissal and delays in getting promoted from their ranks “ he said

RCS officials are working hard to increase the current number of prison guards so that it is easier for them to ensure security of inmates and their belongings and that all the inmates get good correctional services which will help them transform before they go back into the society.
