Minister Biruta awards rank of Warder to 546 who completed Basic Correction Course

The new graduates of 07 Intake, consist of 200 women and 346 men, all dedicated to serving the nation by ensuring the rehabilitation and security of inmates who is in serving their sentences in different correctional Facilities.

Senior Superintendent Jean Pierre Olivier Bazambanza, The Commandant of RCS Training School -Rwamagana, emphasized that the trainees received intensive knowledge in correctional practices, military skills including weapons handling, professional ethics, and combat skills, to equip them with the necessary discipline and ability to maintain security within the Correctional Facilities.

“They have undergone comprehensive training covering essential subjects that provide them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional ethics required of junior staff in Rwanda Correctional Service. Their curriculum included inmate rehabilitation, human rights, military exercises, weapons handling, discipline, and physical fitness,” SSP Bazambanza explained.

At the beginning of the training 550 students were enrolled, but two were dismissed due to misconduct that contradicted the core values of RCS, while another two were reassigned to pursue higher education at the National Police College (NPC).

Minister Biruta commended the 546 graduates for their dedication and patriotism, urging them to uphold national values, adhere to correctional service ethics, and respect human rights in their responsibilities.

“We expect you to contribute to national security by effectively managing the correctional facilities where you will be stationed, apply the rehabilitation principles you have learned, uphold the rights of Inmates and avoid misconduct or involvement in criminal activities,” Minister Biruta emphasized.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Vincent Biruta conferred the rank of Warder upon 546 graduates who completed the Basic Correction Courses.

The three best performers received special awards.
