Maj Gen (Rtd) David Tamba, Minister of Internal Affairs of Sierra Leone, pay a visit at Nyanza Correctional Facility

This visit made by Minister Tamba to Nyanza Correction Facility was aimed at studying how the rehabilitation process is done in Rwanda. He also got an opportunity to meet with the four (04) inmates from Sierra Leone sent to Rwanda by the United Nations, still serving their sentences, in eight (08) Inmates sent by the United Nations through courtesy agreement, and checked on how they were performing their sentences, Among the eight (08) inmates, three (3) were released following the Sierra Leone Presidential pardon and returned to their homeland, four (4) are still serving their Sentences in Nyanza correction Facility while one died due to sickness before finishing his sentence. 

The remaining four (4) inmates got a chance to talk with the Minister and asked him to advocate for them to the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone to be pardoned and assured him that they were changed people because of the time they had served in the Correctional Facility. Furthermore, they praised the Rwandan government for taking care of them during their time in Rwanda, and that their rights were valued as inmates in the Correctional Facility. they also appreciated the United Nations for selecting Rwanda as a good country to send them to, because they value humanity, wishing other countries would act the same.

To respond their recommendations, Minister Tamba told them that his visit to Rwanda targets cooperation in the field of internal security and correctional services in order to build capacity of workers through training between the Police and Correctional Service. He assured them to deliver their request to the President.

Nyanza Correctional Facility has the distinction of receiving inmates who have already been sentenced by the courts for the crimes they have committed, where no one is admitted there while still are under trial process.
