Huye prison: Convict Dadi RWABIREKA affirms that prison is a school

Dadi  Rwabireka  currently   imprisoned at Huye  reveals that  prison  is  a school, he  has  spent  19 years  in prison .He was  jailed  without any profession  skill  ,however he says that  he  learnt  art craft that will  enable  him for both himself, his family sustaining  and  entire country   development  at large.

He    reiterates   that  he is  very  happy about  the  professional he learnt  from  the prison  particularly art craft ‘’When I was  imprisoned here, I didn’t know how to make  this ,but by passion,  I learnt  drawing  ,sculpture  ,I learnt painting, now I’m striving to have my products  on the market  so  that  upon the end of  my sentence I  continue my   activities ,since it’s  now my carrier, said  “. Rwabireka says that it occupies him while serving his sentence, he therefore realized that a prison is more of a school than prison because they   teach various professional skills.

Apart   from   art, inmates   of HUYE prison are given choice to learn other vocational skills such as construction, carpentry, sewing, wilding,   soap making, mechanics,   agriculture    and others. While in prison inmates, are trained through various programs among others, civic education, fighting crime, reading and   writing, languages, this also benefits school dropouts.

Deputy   commissioner   general   revealed that  the government of Rwanda  gives value  to inmates ,she had this to say :”It’s  the government  decision  that  prisoners  should live  with  dignity and human as we believe that  when  a person  acts contrary to the normal human being  attitudes  in the  country that is governed by the rule of law, after criminal action and punished by the law, the next step  is to correct  him  for better citizen when released  from  prison. 

Huye   prison   accommodates 9216 men prisoners as women   were relocated to Nyamagabe prison which specifically accommodates female prisoners.

Rwabireka umaze imyaka 19 muri gereza afungwa nta mwuga yari azi gukora ariko aho aziye muri gereza yize umwuga ujyanye n’ubugeni ku buryo narangiza igihano cye uzamufasha kwiteza imbere ari nako ateza imbere igihugu . Dadi Rwabireka avuga ko yishimira imyuga yigiye muri gereza cyane cyane uw’ubugeni:“Naje hano muri gereza ntazi gukora ibi bintu ariko narabikunze kuko nize ubugeni harimo gushushanya, niga scripture, niga peinture noneho ndangiza njya mu bikorwa ndakora ku buryo ibyo nkora bijya ku isoko ku buryo nindangiza igihano cyanjye ibi bikorwa nzabikomeza, kuko namenye uburyo bikorwa , uko bicuruzwa kugirango nigera hanze bizanyunge n’umuryango wanjye ndetse n’igihgu muri rusange”. Kubwa Rwabireka, ngo ni ubwo ari muri gereza arimo kurangiza igihano yakatiwe n’urukiko, ngo yasanze gereza ari ishuri kuko bakosorwa ari nako banigishwa ubumenyi butandukanye

Uretse umwuga w’ubugeni, umugororwa uri muri gereza ya Huye ushaka kwiga ahabwa amahirwe yo guhitamo no yindi myuga nk’ubwubatsi, ububaji, ubudozi, gusudira, gukora amasabune , ubukanishi, ubuhinzi ndetse n’ijyanye n’ubugeni. Abagororwa iyo bageze muri gereza bigishwa kandi gahunda zitandukanye harimo n’iz’ubureremboneragihugu, izo kurwanya ibyaha n’ibyagitera byose ndetse n’amasomo yo gusoma no kwandika ,indimi kugeza no ku mashuri yisumbuye kubayacikishirije

Chantal Ujeneza  asobanura kuri iyi gahunda yo kugorora yavuze ko leta y’u Rwanda iha agaciro imfungwa n’abagororwa:” Ni icyemezo cya leta y’u Rwanda ku buryo aho baba bahaba neza mu cyubahiro cyabo kuko twemera ko iyo umuntu yakosheje aba yatandukiriye imyitwarire y’umuntu muzima mu gihugu kigendera ku mategeko ariko nyuma iyo yagagarijwe ko yakoshejwe, agahanwa n’amategeko mu buryo bwemewe icyiba gisigaye ni ukumugorora ku buryo azasohoka yasubiye mu nzira nziza yabaye umunyarwanda muzima ugomba gufatanya n’abandi kubaka igihugu”.

Kugeza ubu gereza ya Huye icumbikiye imfungwa n’abagororwa 9216 bose b’igitsina gabo kuko abagore bari bahafungiye bimuriwe muri gereza ya Nyamagabe yashiriweho kwakira abagore gusa.
