Get to know Nyanza international prison structure

Being a prison it remains a challenge as one loses the freedom of enjoying life outside the prison but the situation worsens if means of living are also deplorable.

However, things are totally different to your imaginations at Nyanza prison. It is a standardized prison it was built based on international standards.

Construction works of this prison started back in 2000 and it took four years to be completed before it housed inmates relocated from the former Nyanza prison that was located in the plot of today Nyanza pension plaza in the central town.

Respectively it has block tags namely Golf Wing, Romeo Wing, Juliet Wing and Delta Wing that accommodates the international convicts pleaded guilty for war crimes in republic of Sierra Leone by the special court for Sierra Leone.

Inmates include Issa Hassan Sesay who was a brigadier General and interim leader of RUF, Morris Kallon, Musa Kondolewa, Augustin Ato Bao, Santique Bobor Khanu, and Ibrahim Bazzy Kamara.

The facility has a health center where all the inmates seek medical assistance. Whoever is found to be in critical conditions is transferred to Nyanza district Hospital, CHUK, CHUB and King Faisal Hospital.

For any inmates to be allowed in prison, health practitioners test him or her to see whether he has Tuberculosis or HIV/AIDS among other diseases for prevention and to offer special care depending on the case.

Inmates also have standard entertainment facilities such as a football, basket, handball, volley ball grounds and other indoor games.

The inmates are not left behind the bars without having access to global information but rather can watch DSTV as each wing has got a Radio and TV sets.
