The discussions focused on the achievements made through the partnership between RCS and Prison Fellowship International through Prison Fellowship Rwanda since 2010, such as improving inmates’ welfare through vocational skills training to prepare them for sustainable livelihoods after completing their sentences; supporting families of inmates especially inmates’ children; and supporting the successful reintegration of former inmates into society.

Both parties also discussed strengthening their existing cooperation to further enhance rehabilitation programs and ensure that inmates are equipped with skills and capacities for reintegrating productively into society, improve their families’ livelihoods.

Mr. Andrew Corley commended the Government of Rwanda for the positive reforms implemented in the correctional system, particularly the measures aimed at rehabilitating offenders and preparing them for life after serving their sentences. He reaffirmed Prison Fellowship International’s commitment to continue supporting Rwanda’s efforts in correctional reform, social reintegration, peacebuilding, and community resilience.

CG Murenzi expressed his appreciation to Prison Fellowship International and its partners for the strong partnership focused on improving inmates’ welfare, emphasizing that empowering inmates plays a key role in preventing recidivism once they return to their communities.
