The project is targeting 2,500 inmates<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was on Tuesday officially unveiled at Musanze Prison by the Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS) jointly with the Catholic Diocese of Byumba with funding from OXFAM International.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the scheme dubbed, \u2018Rwanda Market oriented programme\u2019, the project will be dealing with the targeted inmates\u2019 psycho-social support as well as providing them with hands-on skills while in prison, according to the officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two vocational training centers for tailoring and dressing were unveiled at Musanze Prison to facilitate the female inmates acquire hands-on skills while juvenile inmates fr<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye, reiterated the Government\u2019s commitment to have the country free of crime and urged inmates to showcase good behaviour so as to contribute toward the country\u2019s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe project isn\u2019t there to only provide you with vocational skills; it is also there to transform your livelihoods,\u201d he told the inmates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"543\" src=\"https:\/\/new.rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_minister4_9919d3af85.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6103\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_minister4_9919d3af85.jpg 770w, https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_minister4_9919d3af85-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_minister4_9919d3af85-768x542.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Busingye said that the Government values the idea to empower female and juvenile inmates and called on concerned partners to join hands for the project to thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs long as the idea is still alive we will never lack money to run the project,\u201d he promised, adding \u201cLet\u2019s work together to make sure the idea never dies, as long as the idea does not die we will never lack the resources and people to put it in action,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bishop of Byumba Diocese Servilien Nzakamwita disclosed that the project focuses on women and juveniles because they face hardship in reintegrating into their families after serving their sentences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll that we need is that people live in harmony by helping each other in their day-to-day lifestyle as the gospel asks us, we want this project to help people respect the virtues which promote social cohesion not only in the prisons but also within our families,\u201d said Bishop Nzakamwita<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inmates welcomed the project, saying it would help them to live a dignity life while reintegrating in their respective families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost of the time many people return to prison as a result of committing crimes connected to lacking employment after being released,\u201d said Domitille Mukankuranga, an inmate in Musanze Prison<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"769\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/new.rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_CG2_da414a5a5a.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_CG2_da414a5a5a.jpg 769w, https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_CG2_da414a5a5a-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Services CGP George Rwigamba said that the beneficiaries of this project will be given startup toolkits upon completing their term of imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CGP Rwigamba said also they are working to unveil the same project in the remaining prison in near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project will cost 200 million Rwandans Francs for a period of three years<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"476\" src=\"https:\/\/new.rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_padiri_4cef565f49.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6101\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_padiri_4cef565f49.jpg 770w, https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_padiri_4cef565f49-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rcs.gov.rw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/csm_padiri_4cef565f49-768x475.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;
