Musanze Prison was built in 1935. It has the capacity to accommodate 800 prisoners.
After the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis, other buildings that were added to the prison allowed it to house 2262 men and women.
The current number of inmates imprisoned in Musanze Prison equals 3930.
